Tradesman NEWS - Lotto winner back mixing concrete the next day

An East Riding tradesman won the lottery but was out mixing concrete the next morning like nothing had happened. Painter and decorator Colin Brown and his wife Angela scooped a 2 million share on the Lotto Rollover Jackpot on Saturday. The couple, from the Driffield area, are living in what they describe as "a building site", because their new conservatory is only half built. Despite the windfall, the pair have no thoughts about getting extra builders in to do the work. Mr Brown, 57, said: "I've been doing quite a bit of it myself. But the place is a building site. We saw the lottery result on Saturday and on Sunday I was mixing concrete. "I've been tiling everything out and I'm still going to do that. I want to slow down work, but not stop altogether. I'm going wallpapering tomorrow, I should have been there today." The Browns, who became grandparents for the first time three months ago, are the second East Riding couple in a week to win the lottery after Neil and Lesley Dexter, from Barmby Moor, scooped 3.7 million. Just like the Dexters, they have no plans to change their lifestyle. Mrs Brown, 55, said: "I don't think we really want for anything. But we'd like to take our grandson to Disneyland and Lapland, as well as Toys'R'Us. "I suppose our main focus will be making sure our family are alright. I guess with the budget this was a good time to win, but then it's always a good time to win the lottery." The couple have been married for 37 years, have lived in the East Yorkshire all their lives and were working hard towards retirement, or at least a slower pace of life. With their daughters Rachel and Sara-Jane grown-up, the pair's biggest love is looking after their garden. Mr Brown said: "We're not moving house, that's 110 per cent sure, there's nowhere we want to go. I'll be doing a bit less, I've got a bit of a bad knee so I'd been thinking it would be nice to win the lottery. "I'll slow down a bit at work, but I'll still meet people and I'll still be decorating. There'll still be work to do for family and friends." His wife added: "He'll never slow down, he loves it too much. But, to be honest, we were happy before and we're still happy now." Other than buying slightly more upmarket fittings for their new conservatory, the couple are determined to avoid a spending splurge. But Mr Brown admitted: "I'd like a new fish pond. We've got a big enough garden, it's just the pond, with carp, goldfish and Koi in it, could be bigger. A new one will cost about 400. I'll need a pump as well." Beyond that, he is keen to keep hold of the money. "You could soon get rid of 2m, it's not like we won 8m or something," he said. "But we want that money to last us, to look after our family. "To be honest, it's nice that the jackpot was shared between eight people so that the money can help more lives." Mrs Brown added: "We're just a normal couple who live in the East Riding. Touch wood, we've got a lot of life left to live and we want to enjoy it." Original Article Link<-a>
